The Story
Feyre is a huntress, but when she kills what she thinks is a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor, Tamlin, is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal Fae.
And there's more to the Fae than the legends suggest.
As Feyre adapts to her new home, her feelings for Tamlin begin to change. Icy hostility turns to fiery passion that burns through every lie she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But shadows are creeping in, and Tamlin has a dark secret that he cannot share. Fate brought Feyre to Tamlin for a reason, but saving him from the darkness that threatens his world will lead her down a path that she can never return from.
Really Short Review
4.8/5 stars
Great fantasy world set-up, gripping story and good romance. I’m looking forward to the next books of this series.
Extended Review
This book took me a bit longer to read than usual, but only because I had to study for my uni exams. If those hadn't been in the way, I would've probably needed around three days (time for sleeping, eating and other stuff subtracted).
But let's get into it:
I really enjoyed this book and its fantasy world. I’ve never been the type to like the fantasy genre, but recently—because of this book, along with others—I’ve grown fond of it. The world is well-written, allowing a reader with a good imagination to see the world and understand how it is built. The story is captivating and well thought-out, making you wonder what will happen in the following books of this series.
I especially liked the twist when the reader finds out that an event that occurred in the beginning happened differently than it first seemed. This revelation changes the whole perspective on the story leading up to that moment. The romance develops slowly throughout the book, isn’t rushed, and therefore remains coherent with the storyline. Anything happening faster than it did in the book would have felt unrealistic.
All in all, I liked the writing, the world, and the storyline—so basically, the whole book. The missing 0.2 stars result from me having read lots of books with extremely good plot twists that you never could have seen coming. Yep, I'm spoiled like that.
I would definitely recommend reading this book!
